CHIANG RAI - THE WHITE TAMPLE

Spending nearly two and a half hours from our hotel (in Chiang Mai) to this place, with a quick stop at Pha Soet Hot Spring, finally we arrive.

Wat Rong Khun, or better known as The White Temple, is one of the most recognizable temples in Thailand. The temple outside the town of Chiang Rai attracts a large number of visitors, both locally and foreign, making it one of Chiang Rai's most visited attractions.

The approach to the main temple goes pass a large pond, where you can see the temple's reflection from the water. It really does feels like a fantastical, fairy world.

The favorite part of this place is the bridge that leads to the main building. To reach the main temple, you have to cross the bridge representing the cycle of rebirth with the pits of hell below.

Wat Rong Khun is a work in progress. All details of the white temple, the main temple hall, have been recently completed. A number of other buildings are in various stages of construction and decoration. The master plan of this whole place is expected to take decades to complete.

This temple is one of the most unusual temples we have ever visited. Even if you are feeling templed-out, don't miss the White Temple if you are in northern Thailand.

It is located 13km south of Chiang Rai. Entry fee to the temple is free.

CHIANG RAI - PHA SOET HOT SPRING

This is consider a middle way refreshment spot on the way from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai which has a few natural hot water springs. A natural fountain of hot water, that is hot enough to boil eggs.

Fair stop with silver and other items for purchase. Most of the things here are very fair in prices.

CHIANG MAI - SUNDAY WALKING STREET MARKET

The Sunday Market is a large market located right in the center of the old walled city area of Chiang Mai. Starting at the THA PHAE GATE at one end, the Sunday Market extends for roughly 1km down the full length of RATCHADAMNOEN ROAD. Its started from 4pm till midnight.

This market is a real showcase of the art and craftsmanship of Northern Thailand. Many of the stallholders have personally made the items they sell and the many hand crafted objects are a testimony to the skills and inventiveness of local people.

The goods available here are made from an incredible array of materials including : wood, metals, ceramics, fabrisc, paper, coconuts and much much more. The products are truly authentic and original and are the prefect place to find gifts or beautiful things that heart desires.

Food and drinks are also available here. There are numbers of temples along Rachadamnoen Road and their grounds are open to vendors, many of whom sells fabulous local treats fresh cooked before your eyes.

It is also the best place to see genuine Thai style street entertainment. Right along the length of the road are pavement artists of all descriptions, traditional musicians, dancers, living statues, puppet shows, and even rock bands. This all adds to the festive nature of the market and makes it an unmissable event.
