Pulau Tasik Dayang Bunting

SATURDAY 24th FEBRUARY 2018

The name of the island literally means " Island of the Pregnant Maiden". Local believes that the story comes from an ancient tale between a beautiful fairy princess with a man, who both married and live happily on earth, but won't last long until the tragic moment of their lost baby. Undergoing such a traumatic and tremendous pain, the fairy princess decided to lay her child to rest in peace in this lake. At the same time, she blessed all the childless and infertile women to be conceivable after bathing themselves in the lake.

This is how the island got the name. At certain angle, you will be able to see the island, resembling a 6-to-7-month pregnant lady, lying on her back.

To get to this island, you'll definitely need to hire a boat. What you can do is, go for a trip that serves an island hoping package. The price for this package normally cost you around RM35 to RM60 per person.

From the Jetty (which located at Pantai Tengah), it takes around 20 minutes to reach Pulau Dayang Bunting. There will be a small jetty for drop-off purpose and merely a 5-minutes walking distance from the jetty, you will be able to see the entrance to the Tasik Dayang Bunting Marble Geoforest Park.

From the entrance (after you buy the entry ticket) you will have to walk for another 15-20 minutes to reach the lake. Concrete walking path has been built all along the way for easy hiking. One small advice : Beware of Monkeys !

Nearby the lake, there is a small shop selling some souvenirs and providing paddle boat and life jacket rental service. Swimming is allowed here in the lake or you can just lay on the wooden platform, enjoy a sun bath under the wonderful lake view. Surprisingly, the lake is not salty even though the distance from the sea is merely 30 meter. Isn't that a miracle ?

Pulau Dayang Bunting is a place filled with love, magnificence, mystery, and miracle. It is no doubt, an attraction not to be missed in Langkawi.

Go and give it a try !
