Bukit Kutu is a mountain 1053 meters tall located near the town at Kuala Kubu Bharu (Selangor), along the trunk road to Fraser's Hill. It was once a colonial hill station called "Treacher's Hill", until it was bombed by the Japanese during the war. Today, the only remains of the bungalows that once overlooked the lust valley are a chimney, fireplace, and well (that was dry), and a stone wall at the other end of the ridge.
This is a popular climbing spot for most hikers during weekends, with beautiful views of the Titiwangsa mountain range and Kuala Kubu Bharu dam at the summit.
To get here, you will have to start your climbing by entering from an Orang Asli village at the foothill, where popular known as Kampung Pertak (near the Sungai Selangor Dam). Once here, follow the paved road until you reach a small bridge crossing a small river. This is the starting point.
The trail is split into two parts. One is, walking to the foot of Bukit Kutu (where you will see the chimney, fireplace, and well), and the other one is climbing of Bukit Kutu (the big stacking rock).
Along the way you will meet several check-points (9 check points if I not mistaken). You will have to make your way along the 4.5km long (estimated) track. Roughly 2 hours (if following my pace). A lot of climbing need to be done here. The track is quite muddy, so, take extra care (you might fall because of slippery).
You only know you are near to the hill when you meet a clear open area (A5 checkpoint). Walk further uphill until you see the well. Behind the well is the chimney. Looking up from the well is the final hill, the second part of the hike, which is climbing Bukit Kutu.
Total hours for me hiking one way from the foothill to the top is around 2 hours 30 minutes. Even though is is tiring, but the magnificent 360 view is really pay the price.
Have a safe trip, and, Enjoy !
