IFTAR @ DATARAN MERDEKA - KUALA LUMPUR

SUNDAY 11th JUNE 2017

Dataran Merdeka or Merdeka Square is located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is situated in front of Sultan Abdul Samad Building. Meaning Independence Square, it was formerly known as Selangor Club Padang, and this padang was used as the cricket green for the Royal Selangor Club.

Little knowledge of history : It was here the Union Flag was lowered and the Malayan flag hoisted for the first time at midnight ( time 12:00am ) on 31st August 1957.

Since then, Merdeka Square has been the usual venue for the annual Merdeka Parade ( Malaysia's National Day Parade )

Since the early weekend of ramadhan, this place have hosted an open free break fast for all. Everybody can come here. Most of them will bring their family, relatives, or even friends to spend time together.

Normally they will serves free drinks, bubur lambuk, and even a nice meal which includes rice and chicken ( depends on the day, different day different meal ). You can bring along your own food and eat here. Or, for more options, there are also food trucks that sells food & drinks. Plenty to choose from.

You can choose either to eat on the street, or, bring your own mat and sit at the open field. The event start as early at 6.00pm and close until late night.

Proposer surau provided here on the field, and a place for wuduk is also available. There are also a stage performance ( depending on the day ).

We start breaking our fast at 7.25pm, have a rest, chit-chat, and stay until 9.30pm.

For those who want to have new experience breaking fast at an open field or street, I do recommend you guys to come here. Bare in mind that the event only be hosted every weekends, not weekdays.

Have fun and Enjoy !
